Purpose of the catalogue
The EUKES Public Domain Literature Library exists to make public-domain works more accessible and meaningful through careful editorial context. Each book in the catalogue is accompanied by a note written by Ernest Austen, Manuscript Reviewer, that explains the work’s content, style, and historical background. These notes are designed to help readers approach unfamiliar texts with confidence and curiosity.
Scope and selection
The catalogue currently contains 97 works, all drawn from Project Gutenberg. Selections are limited to the category of travel and geographical writing, broadly understood. Books were chosen for their narrative interest, historical value, and diversity of region and author. No works were excluded on the basis of controversial content; the library aims to represent a range of perspectives, including those that may reflect outdated or prejudiced views.
Source attribution
All full texts are sourced from Project Gutenberg, a volunteer-driven digital library of public-domain ebooks. Editorial notes are original to EUKES and are written by Ernest Austen.
